For years, Nepal has been viewed through a very narrow lens. But from an investment perspective, I believe that story is changing. Nepal’s Sixteenth Plan puts the country’s investment requirement at roughly $83 billion. More than two-thirds of that is expected to come from the private sector. After over fourteen years investing in and advising Nepali businesses, I see what that number looks like on the ground: strong companies, ready to grow, waiting on capital that hasn’t arrived.
In my latest article for ImpactAlpha, I make the case that Nepal is one of the most overlooked investment opportunities in Asia. With major financing needs in hydropower, the digital economy, and other high-growth sectors, supported by the recent policy reforms that have created a more investor-friendly policy landscape, the time to pay attention to Nepal is now.
Nepal’s development ambitions will require patient, catalytic capital, and investors willing to look beyond traditional markets may find both attractive returns and meaningful impact. Thank you to the ImpactAlpha team for this opportunity to contribute to this conversation.
